Elisha Krieg

Elisha Krieg studied chemistry at the University of Cologne (Germany) and the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) (Israel). During his graduate studies, he developed stimuli-responsive supramolecular polymers for applications in solar-energy conversion and recyclable ultrafiltration membranes. His studies were supported by fellowships from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and the Minerva Foundation. In 2013, he completed his dissertation, titled “Robust yet adaptive functional supramolecular systems in aqueous medium” under Boris Rybtchinski, for which he was awarded the Shimon Reich Memorial Prize. In 2014, Elisha joined the group of William M. Shih at Harvard (United States). As an HFSP postdoctoral research fellow, he developed new synthetic methods for the scalable production of DNA origami and CRISPR-Cas9 repair templates and contributed to the development of “DNA nanoswitch calipers” as a new biophysical tool for single-molecule studies. In 2018, Elisha moved to Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) (Germany) as an independent research associate. Since 2020, he has led the research group “Programmable Materials and Nanodevices Based on DNA” at the IPF. In 2025, Elisha and his team received the Innovation Award of the Association of Supporters of the IPF for their work on programmable soft materials for biomedical applications. As a TUD Young Investigator, Elisha has taught in the courses “Functional Polymers”, “Materials Science and Tissue Engineering”, “Cellular Machines”, and “New Developments in Nanotechnology”.
